Top 10 junk foodsFollowing the track that leads towards good health and quality life is no doubt true wisdom, but going off track is also charming if committed once in a blue moon. Passing by a fast food restaurant with an empty stomach and not becoming a prey to the aroma coming out, only happens when one is too religious, otherwise, its natural to get seduced. Junk food has an addiction that healthy food , despite all the facts, would never be able to replace. One should not get addicted of the junk food, as it is wisely said, that "You are what you eat" but there should always be a margin of going off track, after long intervals, as it boosts the positivity for following the right path.

Following is the list of top ten junk foods which are all time favorites and irresistible. Only those can read and see who have a strong faith, and the poor souls who can go astray, must close their eyes if feel like getting tempted, and repeat this sentence 101 times. "Junk food is junk food, no matter how delicious. I have to avoid it!"

Doughnuts

Doughnuts:

People of all ages feel craving for these heavenly ringlets. Today's number one top ten junk foods which can drive anyone mad with its scrumptious bites.

Cheese cake

Cheese Cakes:

Think of the smooth creamy texture. The supreme taste is achieved when the sweetness is mixed with a slight tangy cheesy touch along with the subdued saltiness. The crisp of the base enhances the relish many folds. In the top ten junk food chart,Cheese Cakes are at number two.

pizza

Pizza:

Pizza is supposed to be the junk food queen. It's beautiful and aromatic appearance is just like a royal queen who's beauty is ravishing. You won't be able to say no even if you have promised yourself not to touch fast food. A big slice with melting mozzarella is sure to take your faith away. It assumes number three in the top ten junk foods.

brownies

Chocolate Fudge Brownies:

Oven fresh, dark cocoa's aroma spreads all around and numbs the sense of reasoning that pulls one in the opposite direction. The fight goes on till one becomes a legitimate prey to this junk food which has the quality to grasp every passerby. This all time hot favorite delicacy is at number four in the junk food menu.

Fried ChipsChips:

One can't count how many flavors on earth these chips have.French cheese, salt and vinegar, pepperoni, spicy, eastern blends, western trends, and so on and so forth. Avoid one, or two or three. But you would surely buy any of these flavors when you are watching a movie. No matter how big the pack is, it would finish within seconds and you would be searching for more as if it was not you who ate them all but someone else stole them away. Number five in the top ten junk food list.

fish n chips

Fish n Chips:

A British once visited Pakistan and found a man trying to chew meat bones, while drawing the bone marrow. He asked his guide that if people eat even the bones, what do the dogs eat? Guide replied, Fish n Chips. Fish n Chips no doubt are a junk food. And this time its on number sixth.

Cheese BurgersCheese Burgers:

The giant multi storey burgers with deep fried patties and lots n lots of cheese and mayonnaise inside have the tendency to convert one into a giant, round like the burger bun itself, with lots n lots of fat deposited in the tummy. One becomes what he eats finally. The fast food king is placed at number seven in the top ten junk food table.

Crispy Fried Chicken

Crispy fried Chicken:

Irresistible temptation for all ages, all communities as the crispy coating's smell is breathtaking. You can't help going off track. The only option is to change your route and adopt one where there is no such fast food restaurant. Junk foods have a vast variety. And this one comes at number eight in our top ten foodlist.

Sausage and Cheese Biscuits

Sausage and Cheese Biscuits:

The crunch, the combination of cheese and sausages and the oven freshness nullify all diet watch plans and gym charts. You think that it's a must if you have to live. And thus you buy. You need to be a true fighter if you have to watch your diet as this is atrue junk food.

chocolate chip cookies

Chocolate Cookies:

Eat one, eat two, keep eating till you forget the number, but the satiation is never achieved. You get to know that you have been eating junk food for the last few days when you weigh yourself out and realize that there is a sudden change in the number shown by weighing machine. Don't blame the scale. The fault is yours!! You were eating chocolate cookies for just a few days!

Junk food if can't be excluded from the life, at least can easily be cut short. What's important is the awareness. We recommend that stop considering ignorance bliss, and make informed choices as far as daily food routine is considered.Fast food is not bad, what's bad is the imbalance we create in our routine. Every pleasure can be included to add the colors of life if balanced carefully!

Steve Jobs resigns as Apple CEO

Steve Jobs resigns as Apple CEO(SAN FRANCISCO, Aug 24, 2011 – AFP) - Apple's legendary co-founder and top ideas man Steve Jobs resigned as chief executive Wednesday in a move long expected after he began a dramatic fight with cancer.

In a written statement, Apple, the world's second most valuable company by market capitalization, announced that chief operating officer Tim Cook would take over as CEO but that Jobs would stay on as chairman of the board.

Steve Jobs is seen as the heart and soul of Apple, with analysts and investors repeatedly expressing concern over how the Cupertino, California-based company will fare without the figure seen as its driving force.

"Steve's extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world's most innovative and valuable technology company," board member Art Levinson said in a statement.

Apple stock price slid more than five percent to $356.32 in trading that followed news of Jobs's resignation and it remained to be seen what the market has in store for the company with the opening bell on Thursday.

Gartner analyst Van Baker saw no reason for investors to panic.

"My suspicion is that Apple will do just fine," Baker told AFP. "There are so many talented people there and Steve's attention to detail is baked into the culture."

Jobs will still be around as chairman of the Apple board and the company has product plans mapped, according to the analyst. Apple is expected to launch a fifth-generation iPhone in September or October.

"Apple is an execution monster, and that includes products, supply chain and marketing," Baker said. "Their roadmap is in place; I'm sure they are already working on the next iPad."

No reason was given for Job's resignation, but his health problems, including a lengthy medical leave for a liver transplant in 2009 and his gaunt appearances at public events, fueled speculation he would have to give up the everyday running of the company he co-founded in 1976.

Cook ran Apple when Jobs went on medical leave and has essentially been running day-to-day operations since early this year with the company racking up record revenue and profit.

"The board has complete confidence that Tim is the right person to be our next CEO," Levinson said.

"Tim's 13 years of service to Apple have been marked by outstanding performance, and he has demonstrated remarkable talent and sound judgment in everything he does," Levinson continued.

Cook was previously responsible for Apple's worldwide sales and operations, including management of the supply chain, sales activities, and service and support in all markets and countries.

Jobs is a living legend in Silicon Valley. He is the beloved visionary behind the Macintosh computer, the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad as well as the iTunes online shop.

Born on February 24, 1955 in San Francisco to a single mother and adopted by a couple in nearby Mountain View at barely a week old, he grew up among the orchards that would one day become the technology hub known as Silicon Valley.

Jobs was 21 and Steve Wozniak 26 when they founded Apple Computer in the garage of Jobs's family home in 1976.

While Microsoft licensed its software to computer makers that cranked out machines priced for the masses, Apple kept its technology private and catered to people willing to pay for superior performance and design.

Under Jobs, the company introduced its first Apple computers and then the Macintosh, which became wildly popular in the 1980s.

Jobs was elevated to idol status by ranks of Macintosh computer devotees, many of whom saw themselves as a sort of rebel alliance opposing the powerful empire Microsoft built with its ubiquitous Windows operating systems.

Jobs left Apple in 1985 after an internal power struggle and started NeXT Computer company specializing in sophisticated workstations for businesses.

He co-founded Academy-Award-winning Pixar in 1986 from a former Lucasfilm computer graphics unit that he reportedly bought from movie industry titan George Lucas for $10 million.

Apple's luster faded after Jobs left the company, but they reconciled in 1996 with Apple buying NeXT for 429 million dollars and Jobs ascending once again to the Apple throne.

Since then, Apple has gone from strength to strength as Jobs revamped the Macintosh line, revolutionizing modern culture and launching a "post-PC era" in which personal computers give way to smart mobile gadgets.

Salt Could Make You Stupid, Says Research

A new study suggests that eating less salt and exercising more may keep our brains smarter longer–in case you needed further motivation to put down the Doritos and head to the gym. This isn't the first time that physical activity has been linked to better brain function, but the bit about sodium is something that might surprise you. Researchers didn't investigate the mechanism by which salt makes us stupid (if that's really true); they found a strong correlation between sedentary lifestyle, high sodium consumption and declining cognitive function. So should you put down the salt shaker?

Eating Healthy: 25 Sneaky Salty Foods

If you love salty foods but you don't love to exercise, the short answer is: yeah. The link between salt and brain function is hazy; researchers simply analyzed data from the Longitudinal Study on Nutrition and Successful Aging, and found a strong correlation between sodium intake, low physical activity and a decline in brain function with age. And that's even after controlling for other factors like education level and overall diet. The researchers don't claim that salt itself is responsible for eroding grey matter; they mainly see it as a marker that heralds poor overall health: Sodium is linked to blood pressure, and many think it also impacts bone health and overall cardiac health. But "this is  has been proven to cause high blood pressure.

10 Foods You Didn't Know Contained (So Much) Salt

But there is some good news in all this, especially for anyone who's highly active. According to the researchers, your workouts could earn you a free salt pass. Says lead study author Carol Greenwood, a nutrition scientist and interim director of the Baycrest Kunin-Lunenfeld Applied and Evaluative Research in Toronto:

People who were physically active were protected, regardless of their sodium intake. What's important is maintaining the integrity of the cardiovascular system, and the benefits of exercise are going to outweigh any negative effects we see with salt.

And Dr. David Katz, director of Medical Studies in Public Health at Yale University, adds:

It stands to reason that people who are more active, and fitter, and thus healthier overall, would better 'withstand' the potential harms of excess sodium than those lacking this immunizing benefit.

But at the end of the day, Katz reminds us:

Whether or not dietary sodium directly affects cognitive function in older people, its intake should be restricted to recommended levels, best achieved by eating fewer processed foods, and more foods direct from nature.

How Weight-Loss Surgery Changed Their Lives

How Weight-Loss Surgery Changed Their Lives

Brooke Simons Mahoney and Jacqueline Halliday-Jordan had a lot in common—including the fact that they were both morbidly obese. After a lifelong struggle, they decided to have gastric bypass surgery together.

On a chilly morning in November 2008, Brooke Simons Mahoney got up at 5:30, put on some comfy sweats and headed to Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York, where she was scheduled to have gastric bypass surgery. Brooke, now 48, had been preparing for this moment for months. She was carrying 359 pounds on her 5'10" frame.

Across town, Jackie Halliday-Jordan, her best friend since the seventh grade, had also woken up early. The 48-year-old said a prayer and then headed to the hospital so that the same doctor could operate on her right after he was done with Brooke. At 5'5", Jackie weighed 289 pounds.

Meet eight men and women who blogged the weight off.

The two friends had spent an hour on the phone with each other the night before, chatting about their future. "We knew the surgery involved major risks and could have side effects, so of course we were scared," says Brooke. "But I was terrified that, without surgery, I wouldn't live long enough to see my son grow up." (Her son, Jacob, is now 14.) Jackie, who has two sons of her own (Timothy, now 22, and Jon, now 18), was similarly concerned.

But they tried to stay positive.

"We talked about how we couldn't wait to go to stores that weren't for plus sizes and how great it would be to stop taking medication for all our health problems," says Jackie. "Then I said, 'See you tomorrow for the rest of our lives.'"

A Lifelong Challenge

Struggles with weight started early for the two women, who grew up in Clifton Park, New York. Brooke still winces at the memory of a photo of them at the junior prom. "A girl came over and told us her friend said we were sitting at the 'fat table,' and that our picture would be unusable for the yearbook," she says. Jackie remembers not being able to squeeze into her dress. "My mom had to cut open the seams and put lace between them so I could still wear it," she says.

As they got older, their friendship remained strong—both leaned on the other when their marriages collapsed and they began the challenging task of being single moms—but living with obesity didn't get any easier. Brooke recalls riding the subway in Boston (where she lived for a few years) and being mocked by teenage boys who started pushing and shoving her. "I was so upset that I got off and walked the three miles to work, crying the whole time."

Find out the truth about eight common weight-loss myths.

For Jackie, being overweight meant a lifetime of lies. At amusement parks, she told her sons she was too scared to get on the rides, when in fact she was afraid she wouldn't fit in the seats. When loved ones asked her size so they could buy her holiday or birthday presents, "I'd lie and say I was an 18 when I really needed a 2X," she says. "Later, I'd tell them, 'Oh, I didn't like the color,' and return the item for a larger size."

Being obese wasn't just humiliating; it was making both women physically sick. Brooke developedtype 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Jackie's blood pressure was so high that she had to take medicine three times a day, and her doctor warned her that diabetes and heart disease were just around the corner if she didn't lose weight. "I also had acid reflux and heart palpitations, and I could barely make it up a flight of stairs without being out of breath," Jackie says.

Despite short-lived bouts of success, their dozens of attempts to lose weight never worked long-term. "I would lose 20, 30, 40 pounds, but then I'd gain it all back plus much more," says Jackie. "For me, food was an addiction," says Brooke. "I'd stick to a diet for a little while, but eventually I'd go back to my old ways. I'd see food, and I'd have to eat it. I'd get an almost immediate 'high' from eating—and then feel bad about myself right after. It was a vicious cycle."

How to bring sexy back after weight gain, job loss and more.

At one point, Brooke and her sister Dana, who was also obese, talked about having gastric bypass surgery. But when their mom got sick and needed to go on dialysis, Brooke bowed out so they both wouldn't be recovering from surgery while their mom needed their assistance. Dana went ahead with the procedure, and Brooke and Jackie watched as Dana lost weight.

Meanwhile, Jackie was also considering weight-loss surgery and even attended a few information sessions at the hospital where she worked. But the moment she knew it was time to take action was after her 25th high school reunion. She posed for a picture with a group of old friends—including Brooke—and afterward, someone had the photo blown up into 8" x 10" prints and gave a copy to everyone. "When I saw it, I was mortified," says Jackie. "Sobbing, I called Brooke up and said, 'That's it. I'm going to have the surgery.'"

Brooke's mom was still sick, but Brooke decided that she, too, couldn't delay any longer. "I was a walking heart attack," says Brooke. "I told Jackie, 'If you're doing it, I'm doing it with you.'"

The Prep

The hospital orientation, which was led by the surgeon who would later perform their procedures, only confirmed their decision. Jackie recalls, "The doctor got up and told us, 'Morbid obesity is a disease. If you had cancer, you'd get it removed. If you had heart disease, you'd have heart surgery. This is no different.' Finally, I felt as if someone really understood and could help me."

The doctor further explained that gastric bypass—a surgical procedure that restricts the size of the stomach—has a variety of risks and side effects. Also, it wouldn't be successful unless they learned to make healthier food choices, cut portion sizes and exercise. But the two friends remained convinced that the surgery would be worth it, and that going through it together would make it easier. The doctor agreed to accommodate their request to schedule their surgeries on the same day.

In the months leading up to the surgery—which was set for the day before Thanksgiving, 2008—both women underwent a battery of medical tests, including X-rays and an EKG, to make sure their bodies could withstand the surgery. They also met with a psychologist to make sure they were mentally prepared for the recovery, that they had a good support system in place and that their main motivation was better health—not vanity.

The day of the surgery, Jackie told one last lie. "The anesthesiologist asked me what I weighed, and I lied right to her face," she says. "I told her that I weighed 20 pounds less than I actually did. The whole time I was being wheeled in, I was afraid I'd wake up in the middle of the surgery because I'd lied."

A New Reality

The two women soon realized they could no longer eat whatever they wanted. Because gastric bypass surgery shrinks the stomach and affects how food is digested and absorbed, people who have had it can only eat a very small amount in one sitting (they have to work up to being able to eat about a fistful of food), and chewing thoroughly is crucial. High-fat foods can be particularly troublesome and cause bad side effects because they're usually difficult to digest.

Get rid of bloating for good.

A week after they got home from the hospital, Jackie ordered chicken at a restaurant. A few bites later, she was in the bathroom with her head against the wall, drenched in a cold sweat and racked with pain and nausea.

"I had white foam coming out of my mouth, and my nose was running horribly," she says. "Thank goodness I was with Brooke. My mother would have insisted on rushing me to the hospital, and my kids would have thought I was dying. But Brooke just said, 'Oh, it didn't go well, did it? Maybe it was too much food or you didn't chew well.' She understood because the same rules applied to her."

Eat these foods in order to fall asleep faster.

In addition to changing their eating habits, Brooke and Jackie also started exercising more—a critical factor in losing the weight and keeping it off. Brooke does aqua aerobics and uses the weight machines at the YMCA where she works, and also enjoys walking; Jackie mostly walks but is hoping to start working out with a trainer soon.

Six months after the surgery and nearly 100 pounds lighter, Jackie went into a clothing store and grabbed a few items in a 1X, her most recent size. But when she tried them on, she discovered that none of them fit her. "I was shocked to realize that even an extra-large was too big," she recalls. "That's when I realized I could buy anything I wanted. I went home, called my mom and said, 'I just bought a large!'"

Today, Brooke is 161 pounds lighter and has gone from a size 28 to a 14. Jackie has lost 125 pounds and dropped from a size 24 to a 12. Jackie no longer takes blood pressure medication, and Brooke no longer needs medication for diabetes, cholesterol or blood pressure.

See 10 incredible before-and-after weight-loss photos.

But the challenges aren't over. Both women are still prone to emotional eating. "There are times when I'm feeling stressed or upset and find myself looking for something to eat to feel better," Jackie says. Brooke struggles at parties and family gatherings. Though she wants to sample everything, she's careful not to load up her plate. To help her stay the course, she carries a photo of herself at a Yankees game, where she couldn't fit in the seat and had to sit sideways. "It's a constant reminder of how big I was," she says.

Though Brooke isn't at her dream weight (she'd like to lose another 30 pounds), she knows how far she has come. Her son, Jacob, does too. He recently admitted feeling embarrassed a few years ago, when his mom came to his classroom and the other kids made fun of her. "But when I went back to his school after the surgery, he was excited to have everyone see how much better I looked," says Brooke. The best part: "He said that when he gave me a goodbye hug, he was happy that he could finally reach his arms all the way around me." Photo: Flynn Laren/Woman's Day

6 Diet Tips from the Author of Go UnDiet

By Megan O. SteintragerEpicurious.com

I recently caught up via an email interview with Gloria Tsang, RD, the author of Go UnDiet: 50 Small Actions for Lasting Weight Loss and the founder of HealthCastle.com, a site that offers nutrition advice from registered dietitians. She shared the following tips for improving your diet and staying healthy through the busy fall season. Read on for advice on reading labels on packaged food, which food "villains" you should steer clear of, and more.

1. Of the "50 small actions for lasting weight loss" you cover in Go UnDiet, which one would you pick if you had to name the most important?

Out of the 50 small actions, I'd have to say #12 "Un-HPF" is the most important. In my book, I called out highly-processed foods (HPF) for being the real culprit of our obesity problem, not meat or carbs. People worry about white meat vs. dark meat, or whether it should be skinless or not when ordering chicken. That really should be the least of your concerns. For instance, a piece of chicken breast WITH skin has about 6 to 7 grams of fat. But a piece of highly-processed pizza from the frozen aisle may have three times as much fat! Another example is fish. A serving of sole has merely 1.5 grams for fat, but the same serving size of highly-processed battered fish sticks has 13 g!

2. After Labor Day, it seems we all get even busier (back to school, ramped up work schedule, and other activities), plus all that great summer produce we've been enjoyed starts disappearing. With that in mind, how can people keep their diets on track into the fall?

Eating healthy takes effort! It pays to plan ahead and use available help. Most people resort to fast-food or commercial snacks when they are hungry and can't find anything at home! Therefore, the key thing is to have healthy food choices and ingredients available at home so we are able quickly put together a wholesome meal. Since most of us tend to grocery shop on weekends, I encourage  you to "Un-Burden yourself" (#49) by using a grocery delivery service to have food delivered mid-week to supplement. Join a CSA, try FreshDirect [a New York-based delivery service], or check with your local grocery stores to have fresh veggies and fruits delivered mid-week.

3. When buying packaged food, what are some good things to look for on the label?

Low sodium: #6 "Un-Low" discusses why low fat, low sugar, etc. products are not necessary good for you. But if there's one thing we WANT to be low it's sodium!

"Active" Culture: It's appalling how some yogurt products actually don't have active bacterial culture!

Trans Fat Free or Zero Trans Fat: Since labeling regulations allow manufacturers to claim 0 trans fat if [a product] contains less than 0.49 g [of trans fat] per serving, it's important to make sure you do not find partially hydrogenated oil on the ingredient list.

100% Whole Grains: The key is "100%." Some products have a whole grain logo on the front of the box, only to find out they are actually mixed with refined white flour.

4. What about things to avoid in packaged food?

When buying packaged food, use my "5-second scan rule" to determine if the product is highly-processed:

a) Does it has colorful cartoon characters? (#8 Un-cartoon) In a recent review of 104 breakfast cereals, the top 10 all show cartoon characters on the box when we sorted it by sugar content from high to low!

b) Does it say fat-free? (#9 Un-fat-free). Artificially made fat-free products are usually not real foods! To replace fats in products, manufacturers have to add something back to mimic the texture. Usually, bad carbs like thickeners are added! Page 24 in my book shows how many artificial ingredients go into a fat-free salad dressing.

c) Is the ingredients list long and does it sound like a Chemistry textbook? In general, the longer the ingredient list, the more stuff and artificial ingredients go into it. Page 21 and 22 discuss some of the common additives like colorings, preservatives, chemicals, and sodium that are found in HPFs. In addition to partially hydrogenated oil (trans fat), watch out for palm oil as well. In #15, I call for "Un-palm." Products that are made with palm oil are usually highly-processed -- like instant noodles and microwave popcorn.

5. What are some foods that have been unfairly maligned and what are some true "villain foods"?

Meat and carbs are often regarded as the villain! People often say, "I'm on a diet so no steak tonight!" I've already explained why meat is not the villain in question one above. And don't we all know someone who is on a low-carb diet?!!! The truth is, carbs are not the problem. But rather, it's the toppings we added to these foods. For example, a dish of plain pasta has a reasonable calorie level, but if you add the Alfredo sauce, the calorie count triples. The same goes for baked potatoes. After we add the toppings like sour cream, bacon bits, and cheese, the calorie count doubles. All these years we've been fixating our focus on carbs, and I feel that it's time to step back. So I've dedicated one chapter (Chapter 8) to look into these extras, toppings, and dipping sauces.

6. Many experts focus on "calories in/calories burned" when it comes to weight loss. Why do you say look beyond calories?

I still believe in calories-in/calories-out! It's really as simple as that. The problem occurs when we choose low-fat or low-sugar, highly processed foods. Low-fat or fat-free foods are often less satisfying to eat than their full-fat counterparts, so we need to eat more of them to get the same level of satisfaction. In fact, research suggested that "diet" foods may be satisfying at first, but they become less so over time. The researchers even suggest this may be one reason that so many of us find ourselves yo-yo dieting. We can live with low fat food only initially, but after awhile we will crave the real thing. Worse, many low-fat foods are not saving that much in calories anyway. In ourreview of potato chips baked chips only save about 20 to 30 calories compared to fried chips! It's easy to convince ourselves to eat more since there's less fat. In the end, this means you'll actually eat more low-fat foods than you would if you chose the regular full-fat version. The same goes with artificially-sweetened products. Yes, diet soda contains zero calories! But studies are not conclusive about whether artificial sweeteners actually help us lose weight or help us eat fewer calories. In fact, studies showed that artificially sweetened soda lead to weight gain in kids. And whats worse, some studies have found that artificial sweeteners in non-energy foods like chewing gum, flavored water, and other zero-calorie drinks can actually increase hunger! Therefore, don't judge a food product by how much calories it contains.
